INSTRUCTORS

Alan Haynes An experienced Yachtmaster Instructor with a calming influence, Alan has enjoyed sailing since he started racing dinghies at the age of 10. After 20 years of racing and cruising, he only decided to get his Yachtmaster's on completing a circumnavigation of the world with his wife on their 40ft yacht in 2000. A Yachtmaster Instructor since 2004, he now cruises his and other people’s yachts and loves anchoring in remote places, preferring to avoid marinas.

Geoff Evans Born in Shrewsbury, our ex Royal Marine, Geoff is NONSTOP's Duty Manager and Cruising Instructor. A true seaman he lives on his wooden Ketch in Totnes and has been in the ‘outdoor’ industry nearly 30 years. His past exploits include; skiing for the British Slalom Team and making films for the BBC in America, Malaysia and the Himalayas. Favourite cruising ground: The West Coast of Scotland Motto: ‘Behind every great achievement is a dreamer of great dreams’

John Lee A talented Yachtmaster Instructor, John was taught to sail in the Solent age six by his father . At that age catching the wake of the Wightlink ferry in the dinghy was the highlight of sailing trips but it gradually became more enjoyable until he became hooked after a trip down the North Sea. His greatest sailing moment was in the Americas Cup Jubilee, 2001; racing over the finish line under full canvass with deckhands stretching out from the bowsprit to try and cross the line first! Motto: 'Many deckhands make light work'.

Kevin Fuller Originally from Wokingham, Berkshire, Kevin and his wife moved to Devon in 2005 to start a new life away from ‘the rat race’. Having sailed for 10 years and achieving his Yachtmaster Offshore, Kevin decided to become a Cruising Instructor. The Devon and Cornwall coast is his favourite bit of coastline, which was one of his reasons for moving to the West Country. A jovial fellow, you’re certain to have plenty of fun learning with Kevin.

James Dodd Instrumental in our Adventure Sailing programmes, James has skippered our Caribbean Circuits, a Transatlantic and an Around Britain. Growing up on the River Dart he learnt to sail as a child and joined the Navy after training at Plymouth's Royal Naval Engineering College. Most memorable sailing moment: Sailing an old 45ft R.N. wooden boat in the same force 10 storm which sunk Ted Heath’s boat, Morning Cloud in '74. Favourite cruising ground: The Caribbean.

Mikey James Our resident Scotsman and home-grown talent, Mikey joined our Fast Track Programme in 2005 and sailed ‘Around Britain’ on our 6-week Adventure Sailing trip, particularly enjoying the Isles of Scilly. He has since gained his Yachtmaster Instructor and is proving a bit of a natural; with a dad in the Merchant Navy it must be in his genes! Favourite cruising ground: The Western Isles for the stunning scenery. Motto, ‘Work hard, play hard’

Paul Prentice A late starter, Paul began his sailing career in '92 after going on an adventure sailing exercise with the British Army. A bit of a natural, he worked his way through the RYA system until qualifying as an instructor, initially teaching within the Army. His most memorable sailing moment was his first trans-Atlantic crossing which included a brush with hurricane Larry. Favourite sailing ground: The sunny Grenadines. Motto, ‘Life’s not a rehearsal’

Will Davies Will has been sailing for 22 years, starting on dinghies and then moving onto yachts. He has an impressive 25,000 miles logged, 16,000 of which were recently logged in one year when he sailed his own boat from the UK to NZ with his wife Alyssa. Since their return in March 2007 they have become proud parents to little Grace and NONSTOP were fortunate enough to welcome his experience and jovial personality on board in August 07.
