ADVENTURE SAILING TO NORMANDY AND HOLLAND
A three week sailing adventure taking in the capital cities of Holland and the UK, the Normandy coast, D-Day Beaches, Dunkirk and some of the hidden gems of the UK coastline. By taking three weeks the skipper has time to tailor the trip to your needs so you have the opportunity to really explore your choice of these historic ports and landmarks.
MAP
DARTMOUTH - NORMANDY
From our home port of Dartmouth we cross the English Channel, the world’s largest shipping lane, a wonderful learning experience for any sailor. We arrive in Cherbourg, renowned for its fantastic seafood restaurants and the French Maritime museum is well worth a visit. En route to Honfleur we sail past the famous D-Day Beaches of Utah, Omaha, Gold, Juno & Sword. On arrival in Honfleur you will appreciate why this picturesque port was a particular favourite with The Impressionists Courbet and Monet. Whilst here, make sure you visit the Bayeaux Tapestry and the D-Day Museums.
Boulogne-sur-Mer and Dunkirk are our next ports of call both rich in heritage. Dunkirk was made famous by the evacuation of allied troops in the summer of 1940. Boulogne is the largest fishing port in France and so the emphasis, as you would expect, is very much on seafood and all things connected with the sea. Make sure you visit the ‘old town’ which is dominated by the belfry and dome of the 12th century Cathedral.
HOLLAND - DARTMOUTH
The first stop in Holland is the shipping port of Rotterdam which has for many years been the "Gateway to Europe". From here we can also visit the world famous Dutch windmills at Kinderdijk. The Adventure now reaches the always popular Amsterdam with its intricate waterways, Van Gogh Museum, canals and cafes.
Crossing back over the English Channel to the East coast of Britain we work our way down to London. The capital is a highlight with our Around Britain Voyagers as it gives us a chance to sail past some landmarks including the Thames Barrier, Millennium Dome and Tower Bridge. The final leg of the journey takes in the most famous sailing ports in Britain. We will spend a few days in Cowes, a mecca for yachtsmen from around the world, then head onto Weymouth, where the 2012 Olympic sailing will be hosted, before finally reaching home in Dartmouth.
