ESCAPE THE BRITISH WINTER WITH A SAILING CIRCUIT OF THE CANARIES
At NONSTOP Sail we recognise the desire to go sailing is still strong during the winter but the cold, wet conditions make it less appealing. Therefore we not try sailing in Las Palmas, Gran Canaria, we’ll be offering a full range of 7-day RYA courses in the sunny Canaries, allowing you to escape the British winter.
THE CANARY ISLANDS
Just off the coast of Africa, the Canary Islands have a sub-tropical climate and with: year long sunshine, average winter temperatures of 23°C and excellent north easterly trade winds, it’s the perfect learning environment. During your course you will typically enjoy sailing around a selection of the neighbouring islands, including: • El Heirro • La Palma • La Gomera • Tenerife • Gran Canaria A hugely popular holiday destination, the Canaries are well known for their busy night life, black volcanic sand and tropical vegetation, primarily their plentiful banana plantations! As well as the much frequented hot spots we will also sail the quieter, more un-touched ports and harbours. The larger islands of Tenerife and Gran Canaria have plenty to see with a clean, efficient bus service covering the islands. In Tenerife, Puerto de la Cruz has old harbour-town charm mixed with north European influences and Mt Teide, the highest point of Spain, makes an enjoyable day trip.
In Gran Canaria, Puerto de Mogan is a picturesque port of call with many little canals, earning it the title of ‘Little Venice’ and Aguimes has been carefully restored to a traditional Canarian town, centred around the old church and quiet square. The smaller, lesser known, western islands, El Hierro, La Palma, and La Gomera all offer beautiful varied terrain. La Palma has the world’s largest erosion crater, Caldera de Taburiente, where as La Gomera boasts a fantastic national park and the house in San Sebastian where Christopher Columbus stayed; all worth a visit.
Flights run from most British airports direct to Gran Canaria where it is a short transfer to Las Palmas and our yacht. On average flights cost £110 but there are plenty of cheap ‘winter sun’ deals to be had for this time of year. Please call the office for more details.
DATES & PRICES
These courses will be running in 2008 so give the office a call on 01803 833 399 to find out about booking up
