HAVE YOU THOUGHT ABOUT A CAREER IN THE SAILING INDUSTRY BY GAINING AN RYA CRUISING QUALIFICATION?
This course is run afloat and enables you to instruct the RYA Competent Crew and the RYA Day skipper course. The maximum number of students on the course is four. Although our Chief Instructor is qualified to run the course, NONSTOP Sail will encourage an assessor from the RYA to come down and run the course. The assessor will be looking for general suitability to teach. Specific tasks might include setting up a demonstration such as using a Portland plotter, explaining Latitude and Longitude and hoisting the main. These are all basic skills that the candidate should be comfortable with. Skills such as briefing and debriefing will be practiced, and of course safety on the water is paramount. Nothing but a safe technique will be acceptable.
COURSE OPTIONS
All year round - • 4 Day Course (Mon 9:30am - Thu 5:30pm)
SUGGESTED PRE COURSE EXPERIENCE & KNOWLEDGE
You should be familiar with competent crew and day skipper syllabus and feel capable of demonstrating any part of the course, both theory or practical.
You are expected to:
• Hold Yachtmaster offshore certificate of competence • Hold a valid VHF Operators licence • Have done your Basic sea survival • Hold a First Aid certificate • Have had a Medical fitness examination • Bring a copy of the RYA G15 Logbook (not a 1978 special, but a recent edition!) • Bring your own navigation instruments ( Portland plotter, dividers, pencil, rubber etc.) • Be no older than 64
AND WHEN I FINISH?
You will be qualified to teach RYA Competent crew or Day skipper. NONSTOP Sail is totally committed to improving standards of teaching. We work closely with the RYA with the aim of not only developing a team of likeminded skippers for our own company but also for the good of the teaching profession as a whole.
