RORC CARIBBEAN 600
This is a brand new race on the yachting calendar and is generating huge excitment, already some of the most famous yachts in the world are signed up. The Royal Ocean Racing Club and Antigua Yacht Club have joined forces to create the RORC Caribbean 600; the first offshore race to circumnavigate the Caribbean islands.
THE RACING
Your yacht for this race is a Challenge 72, Big Spirit Adventure, capable of 280 nautical miles in 24 hours! You will join the boat in Antigua and spend a week onboard the yacht, which includes comprehensive training sails before racing in the event itself ensuring you and the crew are working as a race team necessary for the unique experience of sailing a Challenge Yacht. All training and racing will be under the watchful eye of the professional RYA skipper and two mates. In addition to this there is a hostess onboard to prepare all meals ensuring everyone is well fed and watered during the racing!
The race starts off English Harbour, Antigua with the course heading north passing a mark off Barbuda, the islands of Nevis, Saba and St. Barts, before circling St. Maarten and then heading south to Guadeloupe.
You will then head north to a mark off Barbuda before returning to finish in Antigua. 10 legs and 600 nautical miles of racing in fantastic tradewind conditions will test navigators and crews in equal measure.
RORC Commodore David Aisher believes that the RORC Caribbean 600 will become one of the world's classic offshore races, joining the Rolex Sydney Hobart Race and Rolex Fastnet Race as one of the must do races on the offshore circuit.
The date has been chosen to fit in with the major events in the Caribbean calendar and the conditions in the Caribbean in February are so perfect that the race will attract a wide variety of yachts; including 115 foot ketch Sojana and Mike Slade's ICAP Leopard both aiming for the course record.
