THE ULTIMATE CAREER BREAK OR GAP YEAR EXPERIENCE
Our intensive Yachtmaster 'Fast Track' programme takes an inexperienced sailor to the internationally recognised skippering qualification of RYA Yachtmaster in 14 weeks. For those wanting a new lifestyle this prestigious qualification provides an entry ticket into the yachting industry and enables you to charter from almost anywhere in the world. In addition to opening up worldwide employment opportunities, the course will enhance your communication, management and team-leadership skills. We want your CV to stand out from the crowd. To achieve this there are several key factors which help ensure our 'Fast Track' programme is the key to your success: • A flexible course structure, designed specifically to accommodate your needs • A great team of skippers offering the highest possible level of instruction • An exceptional fleet of yachts • A great variety of sailing destinations in the UK and abroad
14 WEEK FAST TRACK
The general structure of the Fast Track programme is as follows: • 5 Weeks of Dartmouth based Practical Sailing Courses • 6 Weeks of Adventure Sailing • 1 Week of Dartmouth based Shorebased Courses • 2 Weeks of RYA Coastal Skipper / Yachtmaster Prep and Exam One of the great advantages of our location is the variety of sailing destinations accessible from Dartmouth. The Channel Islands, the Scilly Isles and the SW coast of Devon and Cornwall are just a few of the possibilities which will attract you to the area for the duration of your Fast Track and for many years subsequently.
ALREADY ACHIEVED RYA QUALIFICATIONS?
For those who feel they have achieved some of the qualifications listed in the 14 week programme please give us a call on 01803 833 399 to discuss how we can tailor a package to suit your experience. We offer an assessment weekend to everyone who is interested in a Fast Track programme but it is especially useful in designing a programme for those over Day Skipper level.
PART-TIME
Naturally, for many it would be a struggle to find 14 weeks to complete the Fast Track programme so, for those on a tight schedule it is possible to spread the various courses over an 18 month period.
FULL-TIME
If you plan on taking a career break or gap year then it may suit you to take this course on a more full-time basis. However, even with a full-time programme is designed with breaks between courses as 14 weeks straight would be too intensive and exhausting.
Generations of sailors in the Royal Navy started their career training in Dartmouth. With an abundance of harbours and creeks within easy access on our seven day courses it's the ideal location to learn pilotage, navigation and boat handling skills. During these six weeks, there will be the opportunity to use a number of our yachts and be taught by a variety of our instructors. This will really help to broaden your sailing knowledge. Qualifications: • RYA Competent Crew • RYA 9 Day Combined Day Skipper • RYA Powerboat Level 1 & 2 (optional extra) • RYA Yachtmaster Theory • RYA Diesel Engine • RYA First Aid at Sea • RYA Marine Radio Short Range Certificate • Yacht rigging and maintenance • Sea Survival Course Number of miles sailed: Approx. 1,000 miles Sailing ground: UK, France & Ireland
This is really an opportunity to put what you have been taught into practise and to increase your miles necessary for your Yachtmaster Certificate.Your six weeks of Adventure Sailing is broken down into two 3-week trips: Trip 1: Normandy, Channel Islands and Brittany Trip 2: Ireland and the west coast of England, Wales and Scotland
Weeks 12 and 14 are Prep and Exam weeks for your Coastal Skipper and Yachtmaster. Both weeks are divided into five days of intense preparation with one of our most senior instructors before the exam at the weekend. Week 13 is a chance to skipper a crew on one of our yachts without an instructor on board. Your week is closely monitored by our on shore team but it's a very useful project in simulating what it's like to own or charter a yacht without the 'safety net' of an instructor.
